Leading Conversations on Clinical Innovation in Mental Health, Including Youth Safety

Last week, our SVP of Research Alison Cerezo, PhD joined two panels hosted by APA Division 46 (Society for Media Psychology and Technology), tackling one of the most urgent and complex questions in our field: How can generative AI be developed and deployed to support the work of clinicians to improve youth mental health and safety—ethically, responsibly, and effectively?

Why This Matters to Clinicians

As a conversational intelligence company led by clinicians and built for clinicians, mpathic approaches AI development through a training and supervision lens. Our goal is not just to create robust and ethical technology, but to ensure it enhances empathy, accuracy, and cultural responsiveness in real-world practice—never replacing the human, but strengthening their work and reach.

Panel Highlights

In conversation with leaders from Otsuka, Aura and Alongside, Alison brought a clinician-researcher’s perspective on:

  • Opportunities: How generative AI can scale evidence-based communication skills, support training and supervision, and help detect risk in patient-facing interventions.
  • Ethical Considerations: Safeguarding privacy and ensuring outputs are clinically relevant, appropriate, and accurate.
  • Practical Applications: Using AI as a coaching and training partner for providers, especially the next generation of clinicians—helping them respond more effectively to signs of distress, disengagement, or crisis.

Our Edge: Clinician-Centered AI

At mpathic, our products are:

  • Built with licensed mental health providers at the table from day one.
  • Designed for training and coaching, not just automation.
  • Developed with robust ethical frameworks that consider culture, context, and real-world applicability.

Looking Ahead

As generative AI becomes more popular in high-stakes environments like therapy, school counseling, and crisis lines, clinicians’ ability to build these tools will determine whether AI helps or harms.

At mpathic, we’ll keep leading on this front—bringing nuance, clinical depth, and cultural responsiveness to every model we design.
